Grace asks how she's doing and Row doesn't say much. They've clearly known each other a long time, but Grace seems very aggressive and almost mean. Row is trying to be nice but it's obvious that she detests Grace. Unhappily, she greets the girl as Grace (Nicki Aycox). She stands on the platform and the girl catches up to her. Row looks back and starts walking faster, and finally runs down the stairs to the subway, barely missing the doors to the train. As she is walking, a girl from behind her starts yelling her name and running after her. Row immediately quits her job, leaves angrily and heads for the subway. The editor says that without the assistant's testimony, they have nothing. Row starts arguing, asking how it's possible with all the proof they have to not allow the story to go forward. Miles and Row are stunned and disappointed. He says that the senator's assistant folded, and is unwilling to go forward with the story.
Suddenly their editor sits down across from them. They have several glasses of wine and end up fairly tipsy. They flirt but its obvious Miles likes Row as more than a friend. At dinner, its obvious they've known each other a long time. They go out to a fancy dinner to celebrate. They take it to their editor and he says it will be on the front-page the next day. They've both been working on the senator story for a long time and really want it to make front-page news. Miles (Giovanni Ribisi) is her co-worker, a computer genius and a friend. The senator gets really upset and throws her out. His assistant went to the paper with the pictures and the story. She shows up at his office pretending to be from an American Family magazine, only to surprise the senator with pictures of him and his former assistant with homosexual undertones.
Don't get me wrong, "Nine Perfect Strangers" certainly builds an atmosphere around Masha, making sure we understand her power and effect on the strangers. Sadly, Kidman's character is one of many aspects of the show that gets lost in the shuffle. Nicole Kidman's Masha is at the center of the story, along with her two staff members Yao (Manny Jacinto) and Delilah (Tiffany Boone). Among the strangers are a grieving family, a self-loathing novelist, an on-the-rocks couple, a divorcee with anger issues, a mysterious journalist, and a retired athlete addicted to painkillers The show certainly takes its time revealing the many hidden truths of Tranquillum, but its characters provide plenty else to focus on. Before the signs have even begun to reveal themselves, you sense that something isn't quite right. The remote spa they've gathered at has a captivating sense of mystery to it. Just like the characters who inhabit its world, "Nine Perfect Strangers" is stunningly imperfect, and what it lacks, it makes up for in intrigue.īased on Liane Moriarty's best-seller, "Nine Perfect Strangers" reunites the team behind "Big Little Lies."
